WOODEN   ESCALATORS AT MACY'S STORE.

In 1902, Macy’s store at Herald Square  Manhattan  was the first building in the world to have a modern day escalator. These escalators were made of wood.

Today,  we find metallic escalators all over now yet Macy's still have  functional wooden escalators..

Though wooden escalators were accident prone but at Macy, with some renovations and innovations, charm and Heritage of these old wooden escalators has been retained.
Located in the centre of the building, I found them going up to 9 the floor.
