"I am experimenting upon an instrument which does for the eye what the phonograph does for the ear, which is the recording and reproduction of things in motion ...."
--Thomas A. Edison, 1888

This huge building (that used to be known as Koster And Bial's musical Hall during 19th century ) presently known as Macy' s Departmental store has a grand history. Located on fashionable Harold square in 34th west street Manhattan and close to Empire State Building, it was inside this building on 23rd April 1896 that a curious crowd looked at something strange that Thomas A. Edison was projecting on the screen; The birth of a motion picture. The projector used by him was known as "VITASCOPE ".

Entire motion picture Industry owes its debt to Thomas A. Edison.

There is a brass plaque on the wall of Macy's Building that marks is the spot where motion pictures were first projected to a paying audience by Edison, who until then had been content to have people see his short films on peephole machines.

At that point of time, While the east was busy with other issues, the inquisitive mind in the west was engaged in a battle to dispel darkness and bring sunshine of reason and science .And this sunshine of reason and science proved its practical utility to suffering humanity anywhere and everywhere on this Planet.

Macy's have a chain of spacious stores across USA ; Perhaps the biggest store in New York. They sell everything under one roof. Entering the historic building was a moment of proud privilege . I saw branded jewelry, shoes, Apparel, watches, furniture, perfumes, Handbags, Crockery, Kitchenware, Mattresses, Beddings, Blankets, Furs, Chocolates, Travel bags, cosmetics , Coats and jackets, Nightwear and so many other items in variety .

I am told that the old structure known as Koster And Bial's Musical Hall has undergone some renovations, additions and alterations .
