 (Photo Sandeep Mota )

O PEACE AND  LIGHT ! WHERE ARE YOU?  VISIT  THIS  TOWNSHIP OF PAIN..

To the above thought and photo , I add my Poem  ……Aey Andheron Ke shahar …( O My City of Darkness )

( Aey Andheron  Ke Shahar   )

Hum    Jo Bhikhre Thhay Taptay sehraa mein
Loo ke mausam mein thhay sharaaron par
So gaye Baarha   Thakkay Haare
Sard Raaton mein Raahguzaaron par
Ab  Rahe  Teen Mein Na Teraah Mein
In  Andheron ka Ab to Khauff   Nahin
Ab Safar hi  hai  Ghar - Makaan Apnaa
Koyee Kaandhaa Mila jo Rone Ko
Bhool Jaatein hain  Hum pe jo Guzri
Khul Ke Kyaa Bolna Hai Yaad Nahin
Baat  Lekin yeh Tujh se Khul ke  kahein
Dard mein Teray Beqaraari hai
Har Garri dil Yehi  Dua hai Karay

“ Aey Meray Shahar Tu Abaad Rahey
Mausamon Ki Mehar Rahay Har Saal
Teray Baagon Mein Parindein Ho Sadaa
Bastiyon mein Teri Ujaala Rahey
Meetha Amrit sada Machaltaa Rahey
Teri Jheelon Mein Aabshaaron mein
Ghonslay  Pyaar Ke Aabaad rahein
Inn safedon Mein In Chinaaron mein
Har Choraahe mein Basti kooche Mein
Zindagi laut ke har Pal yeh Kahay

“Pyaar Ka jashn Manaana Hai Ab
Har Andhere Ko Mitaana Hai Ab”

A PHOTO OF PANDAVA BEACH BALI INDONESIA AND WHY WE SHOULD SPEAK AND SAVE THE INNOCENT CHILD WITHIN

   PANDAVA BEACH BALI
 ( Photo Autar Mota )

To this photo i add a thought...............

Those who keep silent may not be ignorant . Ignorance has nothing to do with silence . This world is unfortunately being  full of people who know everything but keep silent . silent since the issues around do not touch them specifically . May be generally they  are feebly concerned  but they do not speak up.

looking towards other side and turning willfully  ignorant( when you need to speak and be firm  and fair in your  reaction ) , may prove  grave  for the truthful and innocent child that resides inside all of us.
This child keeps watching our conduct , reflexes and actions. Afraid of him, Urdu poet Akhtar Ul Iman had said. " Yeh Ladkaa poochha rehtaa hai Akhtar Ul Iman tum hi ho? This child keeps asking me .. “Are you the great akhtar Ul Imaan ? " ”
Do we call that child as the mirror within ?
And then Poet Sahir  Ludhianavi  also felt :
"Jag se chaahe Bhaag le koyee
Mun se bhaag na paaye"

“ A man may run  away from this world
But where shall he go from  the self within “

Yes very rarely , circumstances prevail upon you to be helplessly silent. Those situations are very very rare as  poet  Mirza Ghalib also clarifies..

Hai kuchh Aissi hi baat Jo chupp huun
Varna kya baat kar nahin Aati..
Aage aati thhi haale dil pe hansi
Ab Kissi baat par nahin Aati..

BUDDHA BATTLING FORCES OF NARA AND A CRITICAL STUDY OF CAUSE OF HUMAN COMPLAINT

(This painting has been sent to me by a friend . Neither he nor i know the painter . It has been downloaded from the net. I remain  thankful to the up loader and the great Artist who has  created this Master piece . Once again loads of thanks  to the creator and the up loader . If any one gives me a clue about the creator or up loader , i shall  be delighted to thank them profusely .A scholar who saw this painting confirmed that it relates to Buddha battling the forces of NARA. The Indian Nativity is apparent in this work.  )

To this painting i add a thought that comes often to my mind. It relates to Complaints.

Autar Mota believes that.........

Complaint is a result of mismatch between delivery and expectation. In most of the complaints you find lesser delivered to a greater expectation.Very few speak in a thankful tone about much delivered to a smaller expectation.

Should we expect less ? Should we shift to the impossible state of zero expectations?

For sure, Complaints pour out from a mind that is not at peace with its situations or surroundings or set up.Expectation - Delivery mismatch is the trigger.

No expectation no complaint is surely the golden rule but certainly too difficult to put to practice .It may require you to shut up substantially from the surrounding world. It may also mean partial death of the initiative on various fronts. And initiative is paramount to any human activity ..But then Mirza Ghalib is not wrong when he says..

Jab tavaqo hi uth gayi Ghalib
Kyon Kissi ka gilaa kare koyi..

" Once expectation is over ,
What reason lies for a   complaint to exist ?"

So........

O Giver ! Check up your Deliverance...
O Receiver !Be fair in your expectations...

HINDI FILM GANGA JAMUNA , ACTRESS VAIJAYANTHIMALA AND THE SONG " JHANAN GHUNGAR BAAJE "

                             (Nitin Bose )
                   ( Naushad and Shakeel)

GANGA JAMUNA  AND THE  BEAUTIFUL SONG..... “ HO  RE HO RE  ....JHANAN   GHUNGHAR   BAAJE”

I have been requested to write on some  song of  1961 superhit movie Ganga Jamuna. Fine,  And here lies all that  i have written...

Ganga Jamuna was an evergreen  classic film written and produced by actor  Dilip Kumar and directed by Nitin Bose .Nitin Bose(1897_1986)  was a great Cinematographer, Director and script writer from New Theatres Kolkata who later moved to Mumbai and  worked at  Bombay Talkies and Filmistan. Nitin had worked with Gurudev Tagore and taught cinema techniques to Satyajit Ray.

Ganga -Jamuna  was the finest cocktail of  rustic comedy, romance, tragedy and villainy  .Its success lay in its powerful  storyline and the magic of Shakeel- Naushad Combo. Dances of Vaijayanthimala coupled with unsurpassable acting of Dilip Kumar  ensured  its record success at box office  .

Infact Dilip Kumar's matchless acting   in this film inspired  so many actors including Amitabh Bachan. I believe Amitabh copied the thespian at one place in his superhit movie'  Do Anjaane.

Ganga Jamuna   was a trendsetter for some  Amitabh  Bachan films like  like “Deewaar”, “Trishul” and “Amar Akbar Anthony”

I need to say few words  about Vijayanthimala as well.

She was the only child  of Tamil actress and dancer Vasundhara Devi. Her father was also connected with Tamil cinema. She was a trained Bhartanatyam dancer and an impressive actress. She pioneered classical dance in Hindi  cinema. After her, so many actresses had to learn and perform classical dance sequences in films. To quote we  had Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malini, Rekha and Sridevi ; great dancers and equally talented actresses.

Was there a serious affair between  Vijayanthimala and Raj Kapoor that blossomed during the shooting of SANGAM ? She denies it all in her autobiography 'Bonding' . She married Raj Kapoor's personal physician Dr  Chaman Lal Bali . At a point of time , she had perfect bonding, chemistry and intimacy with Dilip Kumar. Every dress that she used in Ganga Jamuna was selected by Dilip Kumar. She denies this intimacy as well  in her autobiography.

Ganga Jamuna  received rave reviews when screened in Boston film festival. It was equally  liked by Russians.

While the songs like “Insaf ki dagar pe” (Hemant Kumar), ' Dagabaaj tori  ( Lata Mangeshkar) " , " O chhaliya re chhaliya re(Mohd Rafi and Aasha Bhonsle)  " , “Nain lad jai re” (Rafi), “Dhoondo dhoondo re sajna” and “Do hanson ka joda” (Lata Mangeshkar) are immortal favourites, My choice for this post  shall  be   “Jhanan Ghunghar  Baaje “ .

“  Bade Bhai  ! Iss dhun Ko Suno. Iss mein Intezaar Ka rang Bhar Do . Kuchhh Madhur Madhur sa Geet Likh Do “. That is what Naushad  told   lyricist  Shakeel Badayuni  when he was made to listen the tune that the musician had already prepared for a song to be used in  Ganga Jamuna .

And Shakeel wrote  “Ho re ho  re ..jhanan ghungar baaje “

I don't know why i   love the lilting tune and lyrics of this great composition.

This song has  been picturized on graceful Vaijayanthimala  in  the backdrop of Gangaram (Dilip Kumar)  being set to freedom. The song has been  sung to perfection by Lata ji .Again the soft  Chhum Chhum of the Paayal (Anklet)  has been perfectly used by Naushad in this tune  . While dancing on this song , Vaijayanthimala  displays the feelings of a woman in wait. Waiting for her beloved to arrive . The flight of the birds in the open sky that is getting free from clouds  , the openness of the earth   and Vijayanthimala's  overflowing  love  fervor has been beautifully captured by Nitin Bose  in this song .

The  song was picturized as group dance wherein carefree  Dhanno ( Vaijayanthimala ) dances in the lead and looks forward  for  an early return of her  Ganga  ( Dilip Kumar ).  In the entire dance , she puts forth a charismatic smile . With  delicate body movements, she daces on a scenic  location  with hills and  covers  good distances with her steps. She  is playful , happy and certain that her Ganga  shall come home . Her  movements  are simply celestial , supple and elegant. She looks like a dazzling Apsara in her dress and  agile dance steps.

Her expressions on words “ Aa Jaa Re  O Sajnaa …..” are superb ..Just watch the song . A real delight and joyful  appeal from a heart  in wait … And She leaps forward in happiness  playing with her chunri or head scarf.

The film faced some problems with censors .Dilip Kumar was saddened  . He met his unusual fan  and well wisher Morarji Desai and pleaded .

“ I have tried to  get  the best from everybody who was involved in the project . We have not shown anything that should become a point to raise the  finger .”

Dilip  Kumar informs :
“ I ran around even after it was over to get passed by the censors. After six months, it was at the intervention of Morarjibhai Desai that it finally saw the light of the day. To make a picture, you have to be a businessman, sign Hundies, and take loans at vicious rates of interest. That's why I have never had the gumption to produce a film on my own again.”
Dilip Kumar did 6 movies with this amazing classical dancer cum actress  from south India .

To conclude , i add some  lines from this beautiful song..

" Baiyaan Pakad Chhede Mohe sakhiyaan Mori
Binati karein Laajon Bhari Akhiyaan Mori
Pug pug chhalke...
 Mun Ki Madira
Sanan Sanan Dole Pawan
Badra Ghumar Naache
Mora mun  jhume  piya,
tori dagar chume piya
Aaja Ghar aaja
Aaja re,
Ho re ho re......
Jhanan Ghunghar baaje "

( Shakeel Badayuni )

“Holding my Hand ,
My friends poke fun at  me now .
My shy eyes too make a submission to you .
With every step that I take  ,
the Joyful wine that this heart has stored for you,
Just overflows and goes waste ..
And restless  goes the wind ,
The clouds over the sky move rapidly
As if  presenting a  Ghoomar dance  ..
Nothing can put my heart to restraint,
In joy, i dance ,
I kiss  the path you are likely to take on your return.
So Love ,
Come home now ,
The Anklet bells tinkle  in welcome music,
Love ,
Come this way now ….”

IF TIME AND SPACE EXTEND ...

EVENNING  TIME AT TANHA LOT BALI INDONESIA
( Photo Autar Mota )

In this universe , If time and space extend ,everything can happen to every particle. Thus, the very nature of the particle may not be the differentiating factor between two particles. It could be the availability of time and space .
For a man, his time and space is consumed by the worries of existence.Given total freedom, every person is surely competent to create a wonder ......
Mirza Ghalib, Well known Urdu poet also believes it.....I quote him....

( The only available actual photograph of Mirza Ghalib )

Tum ko bhi hum dikhaayeinge Majnoon ne kyaa kiya,
Fursat kashaa-kashe gham e Pinhaan se gar mile...
Tujh se to kuchh kalaam nahin lekin aey nadeem,
Mera salaam kahiyo agar namabar mile..

HINDI FILM GANGA JAMUNA , ACTRESS VAIJAYANTHIMALA AND THE SONG " DAGAABAAZ TORI BATIYAAN NA MAANOON RE "

“ DAGAABAAZ TORI BATIYAAN NA MANOON RE ”

I must have seen GANGA JAMUNA at least 10 times. Everything in this movie was a class apart . Story , Songs , Music , Song Picurization , camera work and Direction. Great masters like Nitin Bose ( Director ), V. Babasaheb ( The Great Cinematographer ) , Naushad Ali ( Music Director ), Shakeel Badayuni ( Lyricist who wrote Awadhi songs ) , Wajahat Mirza ( Dialogue writer ) and the actors Dilip Kumar , Vaijayanthimala , Nazir Hussain ,Nasir Khan and leela Chitnis .

Not many people remember that Dilip Kumar had written the story and screen Play himself apart from producing the movie .

Though every song of the movie has been Picturized to perfection by Nitin Bose and Dilip Kumar together, yet I love the song “Dagaabaaz tori Batiyaan Na Manoon Re”…The song Pours out the innermost feelings and emotions of an ordinary Indian woman .Committed , Loyal and sacrificing but at times feeling the neglect and disregard from the person for whom she sacrifices everything. How does she punish him? Her own way. She calls him DAGAABAAZ ( Deceiver or a liar ) whom she may not trust any more. Fine for that feeling . But then it all comes from her lips . The heart and mind are dyed in Love . A dye that does not fade even if the beloved turns out to be a liar who is insensitive to her feelings or simple demands.

And then the very next Moment she loves him intensely once more.

i quote some lines from the song written by shakeel Badayuni .....

"Saanjh Kahe Tohe Chundri Mangaahi be
Bhor Bhayi To Bissar Gayi Batiyaan..
Hamri Garaj pe Mukh se na bole
Apni Garaj pe Milaaye le Akhiyaan
Na Manoon re
Dagaabaaz Tori Batiyaan
Na Maanoon Re…"

( Shakeel Badayuni )

My simple english rendering would be ...

" Every evening You say you shall buy me a beautiful scarf ( Chunri ),
And every morning you forget what you commit ..
When I desire something ,
Rarely you talk about it .
But when you desire something
You look deep in my eyes ..
Never and Never
shall I agree to what you demand ,
A Liar that you are ,
I shall not take you by your word any more. "

I love Vaijayanthimala ji’s expressions , movements , agility , footwork and overall presentation so as to convey the sentimental feel of the song.
Daughter of Vasundhara Devi, well known Tamil actress, Vaijayanthimala ji is an accomplished Bharatnatyam dancer and a Carnatic singer...
The special Lehngaa Choli combination that Vaijayanthimala  wore for this particular song was Dilip Kumar's choice.Apart from other things, Dilip Kumar also suggested the wardrobe for Vaijayanthimalaji in this movie..
There is a Paayal Chhankaata ( musical sound of  Chhum Chhum  from the anklet ) that Naushad  has beautifully used in bits and pieces in the tune of the song. This Chhankaata also appears in another song" Doondo doondo re saajna doondo re saajana more kaan ka baala..."Possibly this was meant to fully utilize dancing talent of Vaijayanthimala  .She moves like a Celestial maiden( Apsara ) in the song" Dagaabaaz Tori Batiyaan na Maanoon re"..Her movements and reflexes are sheer poetry …
Long life to Lata ji for the voice that she lent to this song….Long life to Dilip Sahib and Vaijyanthimala ji. .
The songs of this movie make you happy and nostalgic. More Glory and greater aesthetic heights to our cinema....
