Truth With Rough Edges Or Polished Lies
If given a choice, I would choose truth with rough edges over polished lies.
A polished lie is a surface without depth. It reflects light perfectly because it has nothing inside to cast a shadow. It is smooth by design , sanded down until every contradiction, every risk, every uncomfortable corner is gone. It asks nothing of you except belief. It comforts, it flatters, it fits in your hand. But it cannot bear weight.
Truth with rough edges is different. It is uncut. It carries the marks of how it was made: doubt, failure, revision, time. It snags. It doesn’t fit neatly into conversation. It demands that you hold it carefully, because it might cut.
Polished lies are about appearance. They exist to be seen, not to be used. They age badly. Under pressure they crack all at once, because there was never any structure beneath the shine.
Rough-edged truth ages differently. It wears, it dulls, it gets handled. Each chip is proof that someone used it to build something. It is not beautiful at first glance, but it is honest about what it is. It does not promise ease. It promises reality.
To choose polish is to choose the comfort of illusion over the labor of understanding.
To choose rough edges is to choose friction over fantasy, repair over pretense, and a world you can actually stand on over one you can only look at.
Give me the thing that is real, even if it is uneven. I would rather be cut by what is true than be held by what is not.
