DEVANAND ...THE FAMILY MAN ...WITH ACTRESS WIFE KALPANA KARTIK
,CHILDREN SUNEIL AND DEVINA .
KALPANA KARTIK was a beauty queen
from St. Bede’s College, Shimla, her actual name is Mona Singha..
IN AN INTERVIEW TO RANJAN DASS GUPTA OF HINDU NEWSPAPER , KALPANA KARTIK ( BORN 1931 ) GOES ON TO INFORM :
“ I belong to a Punjabi Christian
family from lahore. I was christened Kalpana Kartik by Chetan Anand..Dev had a
truly colourful personality. As an actor he had a unique style. When he exposed
his true inner self, he performed superbly. Chetan saab rightly said that Dev
had smiling eyes.”
“ Dev was a shy, youthful person,
very co-operative and sensitive. We passed six decades together amid a lot of
thick and thin. Whenever I heard rumours that he would desert me, I laughed my
heart out. I knew that nomadic Dev would always be mine. “
“ I still remember our midnight
marriage on the sets of "Taxi Driver" in 1954. Dev had the ring in
his pocket. We had asked the registrar to come there. In between the breaks
when the lighting was being done on the sets, he signalled to me , we went into
our departmental room, got married and came back. But, the cameraman... because
i had that ring on my finger spotted the ring and said that it is breaking the
continuity of the scene. He knew of our affair and therefore he was so
confident. Dev said 'shutup, don't speak about this... later, let's take the
shot first'. It was great fun.”
“ He was a really caring husband
and father. People feel we separated, but that is absolutely false. Dev is very
much in my heart even today, smiling and guiding me as only he can. I just
cannot believe that he is no more. To me he is always Dev Anand my husband,
right from our midnight marriage on the sets of Taxi Driver in 1954.”
