During his early days of writing  , Manto wrote as Saadat Hassan Manto Amritsari.. He was a resident of Koocha Vakeelaan Amritsar . It is said that Abdul Bari Alig encouraged him to translate Victor Hugo to Urdu. And Manto did.

 In 1933, this Translation was published by a Lahore based urdu Publisher .The translated book was titled" Sarguzasht e Aseer" . And one book of this translation was gifted by Manto to Maulana Hamid Ali Khan . It carries Manto’s English signature as well.....
