In an organization, a marketing officer is asked to create the record of what he does in the field and the same is checked by his supervisor on day to day basis. At the end of the week, Regional Supervisor Marketing ( RSM) also checks the record to see whether everything is being done for the business growth of the organization. SSS is the name of the marketing officer.
August 6 ,1990, Monday .
“ Field visit. 12 shop. 2 fictory. Mostly employee sit. Nowadays owner buy employee for Rs3000/= per month. He go enjoy himself and employee go work like the donkey from 9 a m leaving at 9 p m. One shop offering cold drink. Cold drink not corruption I feeling . So I taking. One employee asking when go bank issue clerk form . He not happy with sales man job. All say they having account already .
First Fictory visit report.
Only girls working. Young manager gossip three girls. When I enter they go salient. He say give your business card. I no card. He say come next time . I come out . Peeping from window under hide ,I finding manager start again gossiping with girls. He waiting for my leaving.
Second fictory visit report.
No power. Employees wait power. Generator dizel finish. Gorkha Chowkidaar say he leaving the fictory. Manager not paying salary in time. Sir what business we bring from people who not paying salary Chowkidaar in time. So much water in rivers in our state but no power. What fictory owner do when no power? That my record for day work. Supervisor Sir Ji , please go see .”

“ Thanks Sir Ji .I noticing mistakes . Please not tell RSM Sir Ji . I not understand what you want business issue comments only . What I see I writing. All go business in this world. I strong faith in my religion. I doing duty. Result not in my hand. God above give result.
Today visit schools . First government school and second private school.
Government School .
All boys and teachers go busy in cooking . What go this midday mealing ? Some students playing . Some go bringing water and plates. This not teaching. Students and teachers coming, cooking and eating only. When I say ‘ open account our bank ‘ , students say they poor . They no money for account. Teacher say they already account. They getting salary in other bank. What we do here now. One girl teacher wanting buy gold under jewellery shop, Jain Bazar . She wanting loan. She asking rate of interest . She say she need 2 lakh loan. This rate meaning one marriage cost 10 lakh now. God ! how costly going marriage . How people go marriage now. India go full of unmarried people if this go marriage costing .
Private School
Sir Ji , there one Halwai shop known as Soma Halwai in old city, Jammu . Halwai work income going down every day . People like biscuits , cake and other bakery. Villager not drink milk and Jalebi from Halwai shop now .So his son Sanjay open school .He open big big school . I meet him . He say he needing loan for B.Ed college now. He not passing B.Sc. but go like leader in college. He two cars and new house . He have Rado wrist watch .If you yes then I bring him to bank tomorrow. And he employing educated ‘Migrant Kashmiri Pandit‘ teacher only 700 rupees salary . They good teachers M A pass .
Sir Ji , you wanting me visit Kashmiri Pandit camp. I go visit Muthi tent camping. There Kashmiri migrant live. They say their account not transfer from valley by Jammu banks . They give pass book cheque book and all more than three months. They visiting daily banks in hot day . Bank say ‘ not transfer yet, wait.” .What business bank demanding from these people ? They miserable. If you go listen their story , you also tears in eyes . What new business you wanting from people who naked and live under open sky i not understand ? They running for ration . They going relief office saying ‘ Zindabaad -Murdabaad ’ and then getting cheque. They worry children schooling . They die Loo in Jammu . One Kashmiri Pandit ask if Loo meaning heat stroke . I not sure . You knowing better English . They die snake biting in tent. Two people die under Muthi with snake enter the tent. They needing locker but bank asking fixed deposit. This not fair . Some lost gold ornament under tent theft .They no gas connection. Some day back all rain water go enter their tent and wash all . No fan . No cooler . Tent go like hot Tandoor day time . What bank Business you wanting under this condition I failing understand ?
Another Private School Today Visit Report
This school having Kashmiri Pandit propritor . He old residing in Jammu before 1990. He say he not migrant . He say he want bank account but statement should be every day deliver. He say he want calendar, diary and key rings from bank gift. I say yes all giving. He say he from Sopore town. Sopore produce apple . Sir Ji ,how good Ambri apple? I not able explain what I taste once in my life . Final work report . Supervisor Sir Ji, please see ”

“ Seen.You are again missing the basic issue of business development in your marketing. If poor boys had no money, you should have asked them to open zero balance accounts. Again let me know how is bank concerned with marriage costs and mid-day meals. Yes you should immediately fix an appointment of Mr Sanjay with our boss. Check the spelling of word propritor . And again I say to improve your grammar and sentence construction. Only I can understand what you want to convey since I am used to it . None will even get a faint idea about what you intend to convey. And note , we are not concerned how and what Sanjay pays to his teachers more specifically to Kashmiri migrant teachers. What is the need to write the lengthy story of Kashmiri migrant camp at Muthi ? You need to speak about business only. You are not a political leader. You were sent there for pure business development. If there is no business for the bank, move ahead. Your emotional outbursts should not be brought into official communication. Why didn’t you open the account of the principal of the private school that you visited ? You have been already given calendars, diaries and a good stock of key rings. I have already told you many times to focus on business only in your comments. Be brief. ”

“ Sir Ji I social man. I friends, relations and neighbours . All asking bank calendar, diary and key ring. I giving . I only getting 10 calendar and 3 diary and some key rings . I go having 60 relatives, 50 friends and 20 neighbours. I giving all. Many going angry as they not getting anything. That account of diary , calendar and key ring .
And Sir Ji what emotion I writing about ‘Kashmiri Migrant’ tenting under Muthi camp. I no leader . I no Sadhu Maharaj. Again you attacking my English writing. Now you talking grammar and sentence . I say what I feeling . I talk about this later. I go anger otherwise and anger not good . Sir Ji , if I not leader , I not stone . I human. I having heart . I go pain seeing human being paining. I not tell you all. Go there they tell how many die under hospital on ice slab. Hospital keeping them naked under fan after they getting Loo or what English say heat stroke. Pardon if not heat stroke proper for word Loo . Your English understand better . Minimum six people sitting, sleeping and living in tent under burning sky . No fan. No power . Water tap far away . They worrying children education , bank account transfer from the Kashmir valley , ration , relief , drinking water and old parents . They going everyday Canal Road, Relief Office standing in hot sun for registration or relief work. Many fall there standing and carry hospital . I tears in eyes when I listen .
In their Kashmir valley , they getting killed by terrorist who saying “ You Pandit , you Indian agent and informant .Why you here ? leave Kashmir or we killing you. They killing many innocent Pandit men , women and children . Pandits go panic and leaving everything there and leaving Kashmir . This what all people telling in ‘Kashmiri Migrant Camp’ . Please , go excuse me . I little emotional but I say true. Sorry I going emotional . I stop.
Now business .Sir Ji , today holiday. Though holiday , market open. Agriculture officer visit my residence . He say he not like bank job. Loan go bad every officer under trouble. Bank give target . Working under target no quality . Nobody understand this later when loan go bad. How true Sir Ji . I not visit any place . Bank officer have social life also. Nobody understand. Brief comment.”

“ Sorry for comment holiday. If you wanting me go silent under hardship of Kashmiri Pandit migrants , okay Sir Ji , here I going . But one thing you please listening Sir Ji . Kashmiri Pandit Migrant change Jammu business slow and steady . Many new vegetable shop selling Kadam , Nadru , Haak Saag and Kashmiri Baingan . Many People growing all this in Jammu Sir Ji. They paying for milk and curd. Every family buying minimum 2 litre. They all buying the Daily Excelsior newspaper . It go highest circulation now. They buying medicine under so many new shops opening . They X’Ray and go visiting testing lab . They buying books , stationery, provision and cloth . This business go jumping where they living. If three lakh migrant coming from Kashmir minimum one lakh male going barber shop hair cut every month . It meaning 20 lakh rupees Barber earning increase per month Jammu city .That reason why Shoki barber going fat after January 1990 . Now matador running for full day. Before 1990 , all matador go resting after 1 p m in Jammu city and come out at 4 p m when people walking on road . Previously nobody walk on road in heat from 1 to 4 p m . Now Kashmiri Migrant walking all day time .They help bank indirectly for finance under shop , auto, matador and many business . They say they no interest in children job in state government . They say they want children outside J&K state job . In J&K state they say they always getting cheating even under high merit and hard work .They not quarrelling but peaceful nature people. Not more Sir Ji . You getting angry saying I going emotional. I closing issue . Now real business. Today visit two hospital for business.
Government Hospital
Medical representative and myself wait for doctor Sahib to come. They entering in large number in hospital in morning but they go under hide inside .They not in wards . Just one round and finish. God know where they go? Nurses and helpers seeing patients in wards . Attendants with patients learning nurse work .I meeting two doctors at gate when they leaving . They not listen . They telling meet at practice place. They think young men meeting them only medical representative .When they needing account let them come bank . Why running after people who think everybody only patient or medical representative ?
Private Hospital
Everybody who going inside , keep purse full. Paying and paying . Entry fee , room rent , ambulance charging, doctor fee, medicine cost , tests, lunch/dinner /tea bills. They carry dead patient and go charging 300 rupee dropping. They go hire agent or middleman who bring patient in. Sir Ji all commission. It go like Sabzi Mandi commission agent trade . Different faces in government hospital and different in private hospital. I meeting doctors . They say they getting salary cheques . They need account but bank open ATM and small branch inside hospital. Big decision. I say I come again.. We inform RSM boss. .What you saying Sir Ji?”

“ Sir Ji I say frank. I join clerk cum cashier long back. That time we count cash from 1 to 100 and write entry in pass books and ledger . When bank say we needing good writers for clerk post? Now bank officer needing write stories also you expecting . You always insulting my English . If my spelling go correct you saying my grammar going incorrect . Some times you saying I not focus business . What I focus then . I not telling you my family story. I not telling you my personal work. I religious man . I doing my duty . Result not my hand . God give result even idle man but nothing even busy man . This life truth. I say i join mainstream operation . Shift me branch work. I not marketing man. I not writer that bank needing now .

Meet six new clients . 1 account open 4 defaulters of other banks. One car loan promised to medical shop . He give small bottle as glycerin gift. I thinking glycerine accepting not corruption. Glycerin good for winter rubbing hand and foot . ”
