RAMA VAIDYANATHAN ( TALENTED BHARATA-NATYAM DANCER ) IN KASHMIR

Music , Dance  and other fine arts have always inspired humanity . Like air , water and sunshine they belong to humanity.  .  If India has produced scores of talented people in the field of Dance alone , it is also a fact that   performers like Indu Mitha and Nahid siddique   known world over in the field of Bharata-Natyam and kathak respectively belong to Pakistan.  Classical  dance  has survived in that country  even  under  regimes  that were considered  hostile  to this kind of performing Art. . Like  Music, dance too  has a universal language and appeal. .  No borders or divisions.

In June 2012, After more than two decades,  Kashmir witnessed  scintillating   dance performance   choreographed by Rama  Vaidyanathan  talented  Bharata-Natyam dancer  of the country . This three part dance presentation was based on Lal Ded’s poetry narrated by Ms Meera khanna  a writer and social activist .This dance presentationat SKICC auditorium  srinagar  was titled as  “KASHMIR , KASHMIRIS  AND KASHMIRIYAT “ by Rama ji. The organizers included Shri Nawang Rigzin Jora Minister for tourism and culture , Shri Shabir Ahmed khan minister of state for Power , Dr Girja Dhar , Mrs khem  lata wakhloo, Miss Mehmooda  Ali shah , Dr G K Muju , Prof. Rita jitendra and many more persons  connected with women’s welfare trust . Governor Sh N N Vohra  was the chief guest .

Rama ji danced like an angel with her soulful  Bhava,  captivating Abhinaya and dazzling  footwork..She conveyed the philosophical pathos of the Vaaks of saint poetess LalDed through her eyes, gestures and Facial expressions.

And she informs us :

"You need to stay inspired at all times; it keeps the artiste tightly anchored to the art. For instance, while adapting the life and teachings of mystic saint-poetess   Lal Ded of Kashmir to dance, I gained rare insights into a woman’s psyche and spirit. Conceiving and delivering this  work is  like tending to the baby in the womb. The anxiety, labour and the joy are the same. They are a measure of a dancer’s artistic sensibilities and her awareness of the surroundings."
