WATCHING. 'OPERATION MINCEMEAT'  AT  GOLDEN THEATRE , BROADWAY, NEW YORK

Broadway is the name of a street that runs through Manhattan , New York. It is about 21 km and touches from Bronx in Upper Manhattan to downtown Battery Park.The street's unique diagonal path cuts across Manhattan's grid system, creating triangular spaces and parks, and is historically significant . The  wide path was totally   redesigned in 1904 to include iron fences, curbs, sitting areas, subway vents, and trees and shrubs.

Various subway lines run over or under the road and there are stops at numerous points in the area, including Times Square-42nd Street, Columbus Circle Station, and Herald Square Station.Once you arrive on Broadway in Midtown Manhattan, the major sights in the area such as Times Square and Broadway theaters are within walking distance from each other. Just a short walk off Broadway, one  can find the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, and the Top of the Rock observation deck.The  iconic museum located directly on or in close proximity to Broadway Street is the Museum of Broadway in Times Square, which is the only permanent museum dedicated to Broadway's history. Other significant museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art are located in close proximity  to Broadway  Street on Central Park. 

Broadway is synonymous with the world-renowned American theatre , with many famous playhouses located in its district, particularly around Times Square. Many iconic buildings are located on it. As it passes near Times Square 41 and 42 street or  the heart  of New York or Manhattan City, for about one km , it houses New York's entertainment industry essentially the  theatres that run live shows ; serious theatre, Operas, musical comedies, sing along shows etc. At these  theatres ,  actors like Paul Robeson also performed  many plays. Most of the theatre buildings over here are more than 100 years old. You can see the iconic  Paramount Pictures building located on 1501 Broadway , the heart of iconic Times Square. Many cinema halls are also located on Broadway near Times Square. 

There are around 40 theaters in and around Broadway, all offering diverse musicals, productions, concerts and events throughout the year. Broadway Theatre, Golden Theatre,Palace Theatre, New Amsterdam Theatre, and Winter Garden Theatre are among NYC’s most popular venues. They have hosted some of the most famous shows in the world, including The Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Moulin Rouge, Wicked and The Lion King.

Times Square is famous for its iconic, bright billboards and vibrant atmosphere, the annual New Year's Eve ball drop, its role as the center of New York City's Theatre District, and its widespread use in films and media, which has cemented its status as a globally recognized symbol of New York City and "The Crossroads of the World". It is place where every Indian comes to celebrate a collective Deepawali , the Festival of Lights. It is a place where you see  acrobats, rich beggars, homeless, topless girls, lovers eager to click a kissing photo  and tourists from every corner of the world. Having visited the place more than ten times, I know almost every spot and activity to attract attention of gullible tourists . I take adequate  care of my wallet and credit/ debit cards over here. The temptations are too many .

Sandeep bought two ticket and both of us saw award winning musical comedy Operation Mincemeat at the Golden Theatre( Broadway , New York) in September  2025 .This theatre is beautiful and  cosy . The employees are helpful. They guide you for anything and  everything.  The theatre was packed to capacity with 700 plus  people watching the hilarious comedy on  British Secret Service's  working (MI 5)  in second World war II. It's a comedy based on a true World War II story about a covert operation involving a stolen corpse and a fake love letter, featuring input from Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond. It’s 1943, the Allies are losing, and there’s only one thing left to do: risk it all on a stolen corpse. About this musical  comedy  . The Washington Post had written a brief review 

“Operation Mincemeat, a musical by a fresh young British team, is a hit in London’s WestEnd and may head across the Atlantic. "

Operation Mincemeat,” the musical, is not to be confused with “Operation Mincemeat,” the 2021 film directed by John Madden, or “Operation Mincemeat,” the 2010 nonfiction book by Ben Macintyre. Those properties are conventionally straightforward accounts of a singular wartime escapade, when British spies planted phony military plans on the body of a man from a morgue. Dressing the corpse as a pilot, the intelligence officers placed it near the wreckage of a plane on the Spanish coast  ;  all to convey misinformation to the Nazis about where an Allied invasion of Italy was to occur. 

This new “Operation Mincemeat” employs a  plethora of musical styles (including hip-hop and swing) both to honoir the incredible true story and send up the popular genre of wartime drama. 

Theatres on Broadway don't have any dress code .

One can arrive wearing a  casual t-shirt, jeans and trainers to a tuxedo or formal dress. For some theatrical events, such as a first preview, press nights, galas and opening nights, it may be worth donning a "smart-casual" outfit.

 Over here in the  Broadway  Street ,I had also  watched ,'The Lion King's and  'Phantom of the Opera' . I saw the musical drama HadesTown runner ng at Walter Kerr Theatre celebrating 2000 performances. I also saw crowds witnessing Harry Potter And the Cursed Child,Cabaret, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier And Clay , The Book Of Mormon, Hamilton, Mamma Mia, Moulin Rogue, Alladdin, Stranger Things, Ragtime, and Hell's Kitchen.
