GHULAM MOHAMMED DANSAALIA : THE GREAT FOLK SINGER FROM JAMMU REGION

Ghulam Mohammed Dansaalia ( 1929- January 2013)...Pride Of Jammu...The great Folk singer . Forgotten...

                                                                        

I have heard him many times. He sang the best devotional and folk songs ever heard . He sang the best Bhaints ( Devotional songs) in praise of Mata Vaishno Devi. He sang the story of Bawa jito.I have personally heard him singing  beautiful Shiva Bhajans   .

Who does not remember his" Udhampure Di Dakkiyaan" or "Nai Risan Jammu Shehar di" wherein he relates the old grandeur of these twin stations ?

Joined by his sons shamsher Mohammed and Iqrar Mohammed , it was a real treat to listen to this party wherein all singers also played musical instruments .All of them in majestic Dogra turbans.

Late Ghulam Mohammed was born and brought up in Jindrah .He was a Sangeet Natak Academy Awardee who learnt folk singing from his father Chiragdin .He belonged to the Mirasi ( traditional singers ) community .

There is a need to promote and revive this folk Art and tradition through his talented sons.
