BOOK ON QUATRAINS OF KASHMIRI POET , BROADCASTER AND WRITER LATE MIR GHULAM RASOOL NAZKI

KULLIYAAT E NAZKI......

Reading KULLIYAAT E NAZKI gifted to me by Dr.Ayaz Rasool Nazki. The book has Kashmiri Quatrains (Rubbais ) composed by Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki well known broadcaster ( He joined Radio Kashmir in 1948 when it was established. ) , poet and writer.

These Quatrains cover every aspect of life in Kashmir.Written in chaste Kashmiri , these small verses have a prismatic effect .I mean the verses spread a spectrum of thoughts ; carefree , unattached and innocent. For his qualities and intellectual pursuits , Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki ( 1918-1998 ) was a loved man in any circle of kashmirian society . Though a devout Muslim, He would be seen with Shaiva scholar Swami Lakshman joo and also at Rama Krishna Mission .

( With Poet Dina Nath Nadim)

Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki’s kashmiri Poetic collection " Awaz-e- Dost , won him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1987." He was the convener of Cultural wing of Jashn e Kashmir started by Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad.

I ADD   SAMPLE QUATRAINS  IN KASHMIRI  ..

(1)
AH ! THOSE DAYS OF POVERTY .....THAT WAS A WONDERFUL TIME FOR US ...

"Gareebi hundh zamaana ouss ru't ouss
Seythaa loe't Bhaar paa'na ouss ru't ouss
Ayaala ,Degh , Dhaana ouss ru't ouss
Mazoora ouss Chhaana ouss ru't ouss..
( Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki)

My English rendering would be ...

"Ah ! Those days of Poverty.
How good they were!
How light was this heavy frame !
How good that was for us !
A family, A big dish pot and a hearth in the kitchen;
How good all that was!
We, hard workers, A labourer, a carpenter;
How good we were!"

KINSMEN AND STRANGERS ARE ALIKE FOR THOSE WHO MOVE TO THE WORLD WITHIN

“Me kyaah ka’rrie Yun Gatchhun Sontu’k Ta Hardu’k

Bahaar Aassein Harud Aasein Dapuss Gutchh

Chillus Chhuss Byooth’mut Pananiess Dillus Munz

Panun Aassein Parud Aassein Dapuss Gutchh”

( Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki )

My simple English rendering would be ...

“ Indifferent I remain now ,

To the arrival and departure of seasons.

Convey this to the spring ,

Tell this much to the autumn as well,

Tell the seasons to be away .

Having moved within to My Heart’s cavern :

To any person,

Who visits me ,

A Kinsman,

A stranger ,

Tell him this much,

Tell him to be away .”

Published in 2014, the book can be bought from Cultural Academy's Kitab Ghar in Jammu and Srinagâr .

Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki, was a well-known scholar, poet, writer, thinker and broadcaster. He belonged to a family known for erudition and spiritualism. He lies buried outside Kathi Darwaza and a self composed epitaph decorates his grave.
