( Ravi Gupta , present owner )
Mool
Raj Tea Stall Raghu Nath Bazaar Jammu..This was "India Coffee House of
Jammu". You could meet a poet ,a painter,a musician, a college professor
and a writer at this shop in good olden days. I am informed by Ravi Gupta ,the present proprietor that the shop was opened before
partition of the country and is more than 90 years old .
While in Jammu, late Prof Saproo ( political
science ) ,the then Principal Govt Degree College, Bhaderwah , would also
frequent this shop to discuss Nietzsche, Kafka and Sartre over a simple cup of
tea . This was early seventies of he last century .The butter toasts prepared
on burning charcoal is still a speciality at this shop .Yes the visiting crowd
has changed at this shop. The intellectual class no longer visits this place.
Driven by commercial constraints ,the owners have sold half of the old spacious
shop. The grand old" Mool Raj Tea Stall" has shrunk to the remaining half space.
Apart
from tea, lemon tea ,cold drinks and butter toasts, you can also relish omelette on bread pieces , vegetable patties and his special Chutney prepared
in curd .The rates continue to remain competitive and quite reasonable.
