( A sparrow sitting on the branch of a blooming almond tree)

THE  VANISHING  FOLK LITERATURE HELD  IN THE MEMORY  STORE  OF OUR ELDERS...

Heard an old Kashmiri Pandit  woman singing this folk song .Worried am I am , this precious folk literature that lies in the memory store of our elders is going to vanish  very shortly. I quote what I heard with my simple english rendering  for friends who do not understand Kashmiri.

In this folk song a maiden   welcomes the arrival of  spring in a beautiful style , a style whereby she communicates with greenery and flowers around. Yes with flowers    ,brooks and. gushing water  springs that declare the arrival of spring season. She  also asks   her beloved to pay her a visit now as enough is enough or like saying."Bahut Din Beetay..Hum Haaray Tum. Jeetay"...

(Spring flowers bloom all over,
O Bulbul,come,stay here,
I pine  for you.
Look at this colourful sparrow ,
What a grand colour it acquired ?
Would that stone hearted beloved of mine
come this way now ..
The autumnal winds may also arrive later
And this beauty may soon vanish .
O bulbul,come,stay here,
I pine for you.)
