BLESSINGS TROUGH CARDAMOMS

BARG E SABZ , TOHFAA E DARVESH.....
.

( What can a Darvesh bring as his  gift ?  Nothing , except a green Leaf ...)

My maternal grandfather,   Pandit Gopi Nath Tikoo  ( Gankhan, Gaada Kocha,  Zaina Kadal ) would smilingly say  this when he would present two or three green cardamoms   to his relations or family members as his birthday gift to them. That was a common practice in Kashmir. Some almonds with cardamoms would be the birthday gift from elders. A gift that had love, sincerity and good wishes.

Cardamom garland or Elachi Maala is  used in Indian weddings . It is put around the neck of the bridegroom as he leaves his home and also as he arrives at the  bride's residence with the Baraat. It is also used to welcome guests in weddings.

Cardamom is used in various sweet and savory dishes. Powdered cardamom is a part of Indian Garam Masala. It is used in every pudding and most of the  Indian sweets . In India, It is also used in bakery and Paans

Originating from  the Kerala Hills in the Western Ghats of southern India, It reached Babylon by 7000 BCE and arrived in Greece no later than 50 CE. Today, the cardamom shrub is widely cultivated from India to Latin America. Cardamom  finds mention in many ancient  Sanskrit texts .

Incidentally ,cardamom has been proved beneficial for human beings. Some of the benefits  can be listed as under:-

Cardamom fights  bacteria in the mouth, a common cause for bad breath, cavities, and gum diseases.

Cardamom has antibacterial properties that helps in healing breakouts and also acts as a skin purifier by clearing out blemishes.

Cardamom possesses noteworthy levels of potassium, which controls blood pressure fluctuations in hypertension.

Cardamom can also help in treating gastrointestinal issues like indigestion, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and spasms.

Cardamom helps fight free radicals and also has strong detoxifying properties. This helps to flush out harmful chemicals from our body and makes us feel energetic.

So keep passing on this Tohfaa e Darvesh to others. Like Laung ( cloves) , Elachi (cardamom) is also used as a medicine in Ayurveda.
