JUNE 2013 :
THREE HOURS INSIDE KASHMIR’S DAL LAKE
(All photographs inside the lake by Autar Mota ... June 2013 )
Dal lake is vanishing
fast. Inspite of the noise being raised in Media for its preservation and revitalization , there is hardly any
significant change on the ground . Weeds
have engulfed it all over . Constructions , Doongas , Houseboats , Raads ( Moving land masses ), ever increasing Boat and
shikara movements on the surface ,
pollution from human wastage and
inadequate restoration measures may soon turn this oldest lake to a Land Mass or an assembly of marshy patches .
Large scale Tree Plantation
especially Poplars that suck water for growth is another threat to the existence of this lake . Rickety Kashmir Handicraft shops , Lotus plant cultivation areas for
commercial use ( barbed wires have been used to fence the areas ), Vegetable cultivation areas , provision selling shops, Tea stalls, and Kebab Joints have
come up all over inside the lake. Encroachments and encroachments only confront
you when you go just 200 meters from Nehru park and move in any direction inside the lake . You find roads , lanes , residential areas and houses with lawns inside the lake .Do we desire death for this lake ?
Hum
parvarish-e-lauh-o-qalam karte rahengay
Jo dil pe guzarti hai
raqam kartay rahengay
