SUNSET VIEW OF ARABIAN SEA BEACH AT SURATHKAL MANGLORE AND A POEM OF FAIZAND

Hum kyaa karte kis raah chalte,
har raah mein  kaante bikhre the,
un rishton  ke jo chhut  gaye,
un sadiyon  ke yaaraanon  ke,
jo ik-ik kar ke toot  gaye,
jis raah chale jis simt gaye,
yuun  paanv lahuu-luhaan huve,
sab dekhne vaale kahte the,
ye kaisi  reet rachaai  hai,
ye mehndi  kyuun  lagvaaai  hai,
vo kahte the, kyuun  qaht-e-vafaa,
kaa naahak charchaa karte ho,
paanv  se  lahuu ko dho Daalo,
ye raatein  jab kat  jaayengi,
sau raste  in se phuutenge,
tum dil ko sambhaalo jis mein  abhi,
sau tarah ke nashtar Tootenge.
( Faiz Ahmed Faiz )

Wash the blood from your feet

Where should we go and what should we do
When every road is scattered
With the thorns of our fallen loves?
When the friendships of centuries
Have broken, one by one?
Whatever path we take, whatever direction we choose
Our feet come away bathed in blood.
And the onlookers say: ”What is this ritual you have devised?
Why have you tattooed yourself with these wounds?
Who are you to question
The barrenness of faith?
Wash the blood from your feet.
When the night has passed
A hundred new roads will blossom.
You must steady your heart,
For it has to break many, many times.”

A VIEW OF SNOW AROUND DAL LAKE WITH LINES FROM A POEM OF FAIZ AHMED FAIZ.

Bujhaa Jo Rauzan e zindaan to dil yeh samjhaa hai ,
Ki teri Maang sitaaron se bhar gayee Hogee.
Chamak uthey hain salaasil to hamane jaana hai ,
Ki Ab Sehar tere Rukh par Bikhar gayee Hogee.
( faiz )

As my Cell’s slit grows dark and dim, My heart imagines
“ It is your hair studded with stars ”.
And as my fetters become visible ,
Dawn, I imagine , must have lit up your face.

BUTCHERS AND KASHMIRI MUTTON BUYERS

BUTCHERS AND KASHMIRI MUTTON BUYERS

Butchers are like surgeons . Very Articulate with their knife .Very clever sales men. Kashmiris always treat them specially. While buying mutton in a butcher’s shop , they wait for casual customers to leave . They engage the butcher in gossip. They brief and update him on current affairs. This all is primarily meant to have some good selective mutton .
Kashmiris need mutton for a variety of dishes .Obviously they need it from different parts of the slaughtered sheep or goat . For Rogan Josh , Yakhani , Keema and Tabak Maaz the pieces have to be from different parts of the slaughtered animal. The butcher has to be careful in cutting the pieces some of which have to be pure mutton some with a little fat content and some have to be mutton with bones. It is really a tough job both ways ; buying and selling . The butcher uses his communication skills to sell all his stock equitably while every purchaser insists to buying selectively. Butchers for sure know what they have to sell while the buyer generally feels he did not get what he wanted . The butcher cleverly passes on his stuff to the buyer saying :-

“Tse Chhay naa Me Peuth Puchh . Tse Vuchh Baa Kyaa Dimmmay ”

(Why not trust me ? Let you see what shall I give)

“Ye Piece Chhuyee Amee Munz”

(This piece is from this hanging flesh )

“Baa zaana na Budaah maadha kanun ”

I do not sell old sheep ( Female )

“Ruth Ye Guvv Chhirr Kuth . Yaad Karakh zi maaz Kyaa Deut Ganiyunn”

(Take this . It is young Lamb. You shall remember this Ganai ( Butcher )

The buyer is never satisfied with what he purchases from a butcher’s shop always thinking that perhaps he stands cheated. When the customer is about to leave , The butcher passes on a clever advice :

“Auth Dizi Na Paak ya Pressure . Ye Gatsee galith ”

( Do Not boil too much or  cook in a Pressure cooker. This stuff is just going to melt away. )
I end this brief post with some lines from the poem  TRANA E URDU of Ali sardar jafri

Chaley hain Gang o jaman ki Vaadi se Hum Hawaa e Bahaar ban Kar,
Himalayaa Se Uttar Rahein hain Tarana e Aabshaar ban kar,
Ravaan Hain Hindostaan Ki Rag rag Mein  Khoon Ki Surkh Dhaar ban kar
Hamaari Pyaari Zabaan Urdu,
Hamaare Nagmon Ki Jaan urdu ,
Haseen Dilkash Jawaan urdu,

T
( Before You Came)

Before you came,
things were as they should be:
the sky was the dead-end of sight,
the road was just a road, wine merely wine.
Now everything is like my heart,
a color at the edge of blood:
the grey of your absence, the color of poison, or thorns,
the gold when we meet, the season ablaze,
the yellow of autumn, the red of flowers, of flames,
and the black when you cover the earth
with the coal of dead fires.
And the sky, the road, the glass of wine?
The sky is a shirt wet with tears,
the road a vein about to break,
and the glass of wine a mirror in which
the sky, the road, the world keep changing.
Don’t leave now that you’re here—
Stay. So the world may become like itself again:
so the sky may be the sky,
the road a road,
and the glass of wine not a mirror, just a glass of wine.

SUNSET VIEW AND LINES FROM A POEM OF ALI SARDAR JAFRI

QATL E  AFTAAB

Shafq ke rang me hai
qatl e aftaab ka rang ,
Uffaq ke dil me hai khanjar
lahu- luhaan hai shaam.
Safed sheesha e noor
Aur Siyaah baarish e sang,
Zameen se Ta Ba falaq
hai buland Raat ka Naam .
Yakeen Ka zikr hee kyaa

ki Ab gumaan bhi Nahin,
Maqaam e dard nahin

Manzil e Fugaan Bhi nahin.
Woh Be Hissi Hai jo

Qaabil e bayaan Bhi nahin.
Koi tarang hi baaki

rahee na koi Umang,
Jabeen e shauq nahin

Sang e Aastaan bhi nahin.
Raqeeb jeet gaye

Khatm ho Chukee hai Jung,
Hazaar Lub Se Zameen

Keh Rahee hai Kissa e Dard,
Hazaar Gosh e Junoon

suun rahein hain afsaana .
Dilon Me Sholaa e Gham

Bujh gayaa hai Kyaa keejiye ,
Koi haseen nahin

Kis se Ab Wafaa Kejiye .

Sivaa iss ke ki Qaatil ko hi Duaa Keejiye.

WHEN RAINS AND SNOW FELL TOGETHER IN SRINAGAR KASHMIR

Veeraan hai maikadaa Khum-o-saagar udaas hain
tum kyaa gaye ke ruuth gaye din bahaar ke .

Duniyaa ne terii yaad se begaanaa kar diyaa
tujh se bhi dil fareb hain Gam rozagaar ke

Dreary is the house of wine and gloomy are the goblets,
your departure has as if displeased the flowering spell.
The world prevented me from reminscing over you,
more mystifying than you are the woes of labour.

I Have seen that blushing rose face
Roses still continue to be my companions

Is Gule Lala reflecting sun Rays
or else the breeze moving in waves .
Perhaps some one has entered the garden
stepping like a moon struck lover.

Do Not tell Raahi anything ,
Hardly is he going to change his old habbits .
Today also he paddles his Shikara in the storm ,
Today also he looks for Sunlight in the Darkness.

Long life and good health to Prof.Rehman Raahi the Gyanpeeth awardee kashmiri poet .

When spring comes ,
it brings buckets of flowers .
The autumn brings the lovely moonlit nights on saffron Plateaus ,
The morning rays brighten the mountain peaks,
and make milky streams to dance down its valleys,
During evenings ,
every thing blushes in this youthful valley ,
Lo ! the winter snow turns the earth white like the Pashmeena ,
The summer spreads its silk everywhere over here .

WHEN RAINS AND SNOW CAME TOGETHER IN KASHMIR

Bulgarian poet NIKOLA VAPTSAROV writes .

"History, will you mention us
In your faded scroll?
We worked in factories, offices –
Our names were not well known.
We worked in fields, smelled strongly
Of onion and sour bread.
Through thick moustaches angrily
We cursed the life we led.

We died like flies in autumn.
The women mourned the dead,
Turned their lament to singing –
But only the wild grass heard.

just tell our history to those , whom we shall not see ,
tell them that we fought courageously."

A POEM OF ALEXANDER PUSHKIN

ALEXANDER PUSHKIN (1799-1837)
Little Bird

In my exile I observe the sacred,
Congenial custom of antiquity
And release a bird into freedom
On the bright holiday of spring.
I become capable of serenity;
For what reason do I curse God
When just to one of his creatures
I’m empowered freedom to grant!

EVENING TIME , SNOWFALL AND LONELINESS IN KASHMIR

Raat yun dil mein teri khoyee hui yaad aayee
Jaise veeraaney mein chupkey sey bahaar Aa jaye
Jaisey sehra on mein howley se chaley baadey naseem
Jaisey beemaar ko bey wajhey Qaraar aa jaaye.

Last night, your lost memories crept into my heart
as spring arrives secretly into a barren garden
as a cool morning breeze blows slowly in a desert
as a sick person feels well, for no reason.

A VIEW OF TULIP GARDEN OF KASHMIR AND A POEM OF GULZAAR

Yaara Sili Sili
Dola sili Sili
Birha ki Raat Ka Jalna

Yeh Bhi koi Jeena ?

Yeh Bhi koi Marna ?

Tooti Huyee Chudiyon se ,
Jodoon mein Kalai re.
Pichhali gali Me Jaane,
Kya Chhod aayee Mein .
Beeti Hui Galiyon Se
Phir Se Guzarnaa .

Yaara Sili Sili
Dola sili Dola Sili

Pairon Me na Saaya ,
Sar pe na sain re .
Mere saath Jaaye na ,
Meri Parchhayee re.
Baahar Ujaala hai ,
Andher Veeraana.
Yaara sili Sili
Birha Ki Raat Ka Jalna
( Gulzaar )

Love ! this separation from thee
Is like night long smouldering of my being .
Pity this living !
Pity this type of Dying !
I decorate my arms with broken bangles ,
I know nothing about what I left behind in
The lanes and paths of my old existence.
Don’t make me to tread the lanes left behind
Love this separation from thee
Is like night long smouldering of my being .
My feet are shoeless
No godly hand touches my head
My own shadow
Refuses to accompany me .
Love Don’t go by the external glitter of my being
A desert lies within this heart!.

Love ! this separation from thee
Is like night long smouldering of my being .
