LINES FROM ALI SARDAR JAFRI'S POEM "THE PRETTY LAND OF AVADH."
The fierce waves of life,
Come and float away
The trash of destruction.
Light rays of the dawn,
Shine on dark nights,
Erase even the name
Of the enemies of people.
Dust motes of the pretty land of Avadh,
You have flown a hundred miles
To come in my dreams.
Give regards to my land;
Tell her that lips have been shut
With cold seals of stone and steel;
The black law bars my way
Like a huge wall.
But this wall cannot stop me.
No one can stop a volcano
From erupting.
I might be helpless today,
I might be away from my land,
But I have not deserted
The rank of crusaders.
