KAVITA SURI , PARVEZ DEWAN AND FAROOQ ABDULLAH ON ONE PLATFORM

JAMMU   :  6TH MARCH , 2010.

I am In Jammu and  invited to an event of my liking  . Two books have been released today at KALA KENDRA . One “ TIBBET fifty years ” by Parvez Dewan and other is “ TURTUK Unveiled “ By Dr. Kavita Suri . Dr Farooq Abdullah union Minister for renewable energy happened to be the chief Guest for this joint Book release function . Dr Kavita Suri also displayed her NUBRA valley and TURTUK photographs in a separate Exhibition in Malika Pukhraj Hall of Kala Kendra . Grand event . Prfoundly talented authors . One had the bonus of viewing stunningly beautiful photographs of Dr Kavita Suri in this function.

Parvez Dewan ( IAS ) Is a senior Bureaucrat from J and K cadre presently on deputation to Central government . He was Managing Director ITDC as well. He has authored some books . A lover of Fine arts who has profound knowledge of Islam , Hinduism , Budhism and Christianity . His special interest is Budhism and Vivekananda . As Bureaucrat ,His honesty and fast action makes him loveable . Wherever he went he left a mark. As SDM Basholi ( Kathua ) , he did a commendable job in reviving Basholi school of Art ( This style is similar to Pahari Miniature style of Guler and Kangra ). I too served in this area for about 3 years on a posting .Thankfulness to this man would surface up from one and all in this town whenever i discussed his tenure . Prem Sagar Aziz ( Ex Minister from Basholi ) told me once that Parvez Dewan was the first person to seek alternate connectivity for people of Basholi as he felt that Thein Dam on River Ravi would isolate and cut off this town from Main Land . That Proved correct . Basholi dwellers are now agitating for a Bridge over Raavi to have connectivity  via Pathankote .
Having read his  articles  i have observed that  they are a research material . In style , he appears like    Vikram Seth. He is an avid traveller . Inspite of his demanding official engagements Parvez has visited TIBBET , stayed there and done a superb work for readers . He gives you what you wanted to know about Tibbet . Tibbet of Dalai Lama . The Chinese sweeping intrusion . Local resentments to Sweeping Chinese demographic changes . The railway track to LHASA from main land china . Changing attitudes of the rulers and the ruled . Can Dalai Lama Go back to the land of his birth ? Read it to know more .The below picture shows Parvez Dewan presenting his book to His Holiness dalai lama .

Dr Kavita Suri presently teaches in Jammu university . Prior to this she was Bureau chief Statesman in J and K  state . She is from the media background .I have read her articles and coverages in various News papers . Her language is crisp and her style is direct.Surely she is ahead of her time . As far as the Book is concerned , it actually unveils the World of TURTUK to us . Turtuk is a village on Indo Pak border in Nubra valley and the population over here is Muslims of Balti origin who practice Noor Bakshia Islam . The Silsila Noorbakshia (lineage) which is part of the Kubrawi Sufism takes its roots from the 8th Imam and comes all the way to Hazrat Noorbaksh of Iran, who later migrated to Kashmir and converted the people of Ladakh and Baltistan . Reverence to Hazrat Ali and 12 Imams is central to the Noorbakshi belief. I have heard Pakistani singer Reshma sing a NAAT in praise of Hazarat Ali

"Ali Imaam Bi Hai
Dastageer Bi Hai ,
Nabi Ka Quwaate Bazoo Bi Hai
Wazir Bi Hai "

Turtuk village actullay lies on the famous silk Route .In fact Ameer Kabeer Syed Ali Hamadani also came to kashmir via this route only. One can say it culturally close to Gilgit -Baltistan. Read the book by Dr kavita suri to know more about the people , their hopes , aspirations and the change that has taken place in this area .

As far as her photo exhibition is concerned , I would simply add that Kavita is an ace photographer specializing on Ladakh . I salute this girl for her courage to go repeatedly to Kargil , Leh , Khardungla , Changla , Nubra valley , Turtuk and many other places in Ladakh . Her Photographs are a treat. They reveal the veiled beauty of this area. The rugged mountains , River Indus , Sand dunes in this cold desert  , Horses ,  Double  humped  Bactrian camels , colourful dresses , festivals , Gompas , Lamas ,children , Serpentine roads ,and many more scenes are a treat to the viewer. I suppose this is her third exhibition . I saw one Photo Exhibition of this talented girl sometime in 2007 also . Kavita speaks fluent kashmiri as her mother is Kashmiri . Daughter of well known urdu writer and theatre artist late Vijay Suri , Kavita inherits artistic sensitivity of her father . Her father Vijay Suri also acted in some films produced by AVM Chennai .I knew him since 1988. His body language , dialogue delivery , facial expressions and energy level on stage was seen to be believed . He was always compassionate and friendly . Vivek Suri , her brother is equally talented and connected with electronic media  though he works for a Public sector Bank . God bless this talented girl .

Dr Farooq Abdullah union minister for renewable energy  continues to be Charismatic though age is visible in his body language . He spoke  on wind power , solar energy and Mini Hydel Projects in this function  .In a lighter vein , he advised  Parvez Dewan to marry and carry weight on his slim Body . He went on to say that When there was no religion on this planet , people were worshipping SUN , WATER, EARTH, FIRE and AIR. All these were sources of energy . Now man is going back to these sources . We have solar energy . We have energy from Sea waves and wind mills . So do we have thermal power plants . He praised Dhartee Mata ( Mother earth ) for creating and providing the Humanity .He went on to add that finally every one goes to the peaceful lap of Mother earth .One may call him anything in politics but the fact remains that this man quite often speaks from his heart .  And then those who speak from this chamber  of human body , are for certain mostly misunderstood .
Enjoy some photographs of this function along with a poem DAAYARE ( Circles ) by Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi. These lines for the spring which has already arrived in jammu .In valley it is knocking to enter. It has sent its first messenger , the Yemberzal Flower ( Narcissus ). Certainly many miss this spring time in   the land of their birth . The spring has a message for them. This is what  Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi says in his Poem in  Blank verse .So long so much .

 DAAYARE

Zakhm Bhar Jaatein Hain,
Zehnon se Uttar Jaatein Hain
Din Guzartaa Hai to Phir
Shubb Bhi Guzar Jaati Hai .
Phool Jiss Shaakh Se Jhad Jaatein Hain ,
Murr Jaatein Hain .
Chundd Hi Roz me Uss Shaakh Pe  Aaindaa Ke
Phoolon ke nageene Se Ubhar Aatein Hain .
Tere Jaane se ,
Meri Zaat Ke Andher jo Khalaa Goonjti hai ,
Ek Naa Ek Din Usse Bhar Jaana hai ,
Ek Na Ek Roz Tujhe ,
Meri Failee hui , Tarasee hui
Baahon me Palat Aanaa hai .
( Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi )

Wounds too heal,

The mind washes  impressions fast .
Days pass ,
Nights too are spent .
Branches shed flowers to let them die ,
Lo ! again in future ,
new flowers keep appearing on these branches .
The vacuum that exists in  my being after you left ,
shall get filled for sure one day .

Love ! you shall have to come back to
my open, spread and waiting arms ,One day .
