O GOD ! UNBURDEN US OF OUR SINS

Looking at these buildings in Srinagar  City , every kashmiri who walks past them raises his hands to sky and cries

"BAAR      KHODAAYA    PAAP    NIVAAR "
(Oh God !Unburden us of our Sins )

In one of my previous posts i dwelt upon this  line  which forms  part of a SHRUKH of Nund Reshi  . First two words of this line  come from Persian language ( BAAR KHODAAYA ) while other two are from sanskrit ( PAAP NIVAAR ).Kashmiris would speak it aloud before the shrines of saints weeping with sighs, Physically raising their hands in sky or bowing their heads to ground . Alas !our  younger generation has not heard the line leave alone its meaning..Many kashmiri Poets were touched by this line. Poets like Moti lal saqi ,Mashal sultaanpuri , Syed Rasool Pampori ,G M Shaad ,Makhan lal Bekas ,Mohd Amin Shakib,  Sajood sailaani ,Mohan lal Aash , Farooq Nazki ,Amin kaamil,Arjan Dev Majboor,  Abdul Ahad farhaad ,Gh Nabi Aatish ,Zareef Ahmed Zareef, Qazi Manzoor , Mohan Niraash, Moti lal Naaz , Pitamber Nath Dhar Faani  and Rugh nath Kastoor  wrote beautiful poems on this and many other lines  Like "Teuth Me Var Ditto Deevo "or "Chhuham Chettuss Meharbaan " or "Vaanei Pyom Chettus Graeki Vizi noon "taken from  Shrukh of Nund Reshi   . Even Naadim Sahib too wrote a poem on " Baar Khodaaya Paap Nivaar " .I add more from kashmiri poets who wrote  beautiful poems on this line of Sheikh Ul Alam or Nund reshi .

Moolai Yuchh Puchh Gai Mismaar,
Aawij Kathee Karie Zaavil Kaar ,
Baar Khodaaya Paap Nivaar .
( Dina Nath Naadim )

Our Faith shook from its base ,
O! That small word  , Broke hell upon us .
"Oh God !Unburden us of our Sins "

Ruum Gayee Siriyuss Taapuss Vuchh Gutt,
Akaali Samyuss Voth Andhkaar .
Paanchuv Pranuv Krukh Layee Yikvutt
Baar Khodaaya Paap Nivaar .

( Mohan Niraash )

The sun cracked and the the Day light started fading  ,
Untimely darkness engulfed this land .
*Five Praanas of existence joined in chorus to cry,
“Oh God !Unburden us of our Sins "
(* Five Pranaas are Fire , Earth, Water , Air and Sky )

Naar Veshav Veshnav Ti Chhe Naar ,
Naar Chhe Veuth Vasi Vein Tuuli Naar,
Naar Gagan Bhootal Tikk Taar,
Baar Khodaaya Paap Nivaar .
( Syed  Rasool Pampori )

*Veshav and *veshnav are on fire ,
Even *Vitasta  Brings fire only as it flows,
Fire rains from sky and the earth is ablaze,
“Oh God !Unburden us of our Sins "
(* These are names of rivers of kashmir .)
PS
(The buildings were photographed at  1 Residency Road opposite Partap park Housing Information Department previously , 2 Nowhatta chowk near Jamia  masjid  and Lal Chowk near Palladium cinema . English translation of  the kashmiri poems has been done by a k mota   )

  1. Mota Sahib,
Thought provoking photographs and verses make a beautiful blend of nectar. "BAAR KHODAAYA PAAP NIVAAR " Nothing conveys the blend of two sections of the kashmiri society and its composite culture than these 2 words. May god unburden us of our sins.
